| Food Assistance |
| Hunger knows no season. People who are very poor or have lost their job often cannot afford adequate amounts of food. If you find yourself or someone you know who needs help, it is ok to ask for help.
Most food banks operate as non-profit organizations, as part of a church or community outreach program, and mostly rely on donations and volunteer work from the local community and the general public. Its one of the few industries left that is not about making capital. In fact, church donation assistance, homeless centers and local community charity events are all about giving.
SNAP helps low-income people and families buy the food they need for good health. You apply for benefits by completing a State application form. Benefits are provided on an electronic card that is used like an ATM card and accepted at most grocery stores.
